The Wolfers Company , manufacturers of silverwork and jewellery, was founded in Brussels in 1850 by Louis Wolfers. Under the direction of his sons Philippe, Max and Robert the company expanded internationally and became a household name for Belgian quality and luxury in Western and Middle Europe, with outlets in Germany (Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin), France (Paris), Hungary (Budapest), Czech Republic (Prague) etc. The Art Nouveau style introduced by Philippe Wolfers was enthusiastically received by the art world and his jewellery, rivalling the products of Ren, Lalique, was applauded all over Europe. The head office in Brussels was built according to plans by Victor Horta, as a worthy showpiece for the level of quality for which the company stood. For many artists the Art Nouveau style meant also the closing point of their artistic career, but Philippe Wolfers adapted easily towards the new tendencies; the interior presented by him at the epoch-making Art Deco exhibition in Paris in 1925Pandora is the author of 'Wolfers Dynasty From Art Noveau to Art Deco', published 2007 under ISBN 9789053252789 and ISBN 9053252789.
