David Walsh, Ph.D., has emerged as one of the country's leading authorities on adolescents, parenting, and family life. He spent ten years teaching and coaching high school students before joining Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis to develop and direct innovative counseling programs for youth and families. The founder and president of the internationally renowned National Institute on Media and the Family, he is also on the faculty of the Family Education Department at the University of Minnesota. As a psychologist he has also counseled thousands of individuals and families. Dr. Walsh is a highly sought-after speaker who has presented workshops to parents, educators, and other professionals throughout the world. A consultant to the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Education of Japan, he has testified before congressional committees on numerous occasions. He gives workshops that blend humor, warmth, scientific substance, and practical advice. Dr. Albert Argenziano, the superintendent of schools for Somerville, Massachusetts, describes Dr. Walsh's seminars: "He combined the humor of Bill Cosby with the wisdom of Socrates to keep our teachers spellbound for hours." Dr. Walsh has written seven previous books, including the award-winning Selling Out America's Children and the American Medical Association's Physician Guide to Media Violence. He writes a monthly column published in dozens of newspapers and has written scores of articles for professional and popular publications. Dr. Walsh is a frequent guest on national radio and television. He has appeared on NBC's Today show, Good Morning America, the CBS Early Show, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, Dateline NBC, ABC's 20/20, National Public Radio's All Things Considered and Morning Edition and has been featured on three nationally broadcast PBS specials. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Council on Family Relations' Friend of the Family Award. He received his BA degree from Mt. Carmel College, his MA degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, and his PhD in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota.
