George E. Thomas is an instructor in Preservation and Urban Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his PhD in art history. He has curated major exhibitions at the National Building Museum, the University of Pennsylvania's Ross Gallery, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and is the founding principal of George E. Thomas Associates, an architectural and preservation consulting firm. His numerous publications include three other books from Princeton Architectural Press -- William L. Price: Arts and Crafts to Modern Design; American Architectural Masterpieces; and Frank Furness: The Complete Works. Lewis Tanner is an architectural photographer based in Philadelphia. He received his BFA from the California Institute of Arts and his MFA from the Pratt Institute. His work frequently appears in Philadelphia Magazine, Mid-Atlantic Country, and Architectural Record, as well as several books, including Building America's First University: An Historical and Architectural Guide to the University of Pennsylvania with George E.
