He was one of the greatest of the several distinguished artists who worked during the "golden" years of illustration in America-including the first decades of this century. His dynamic paintings for Treasure Island, Robin Hood, The Boy's King Arthur, and other great adventure stories of Western literature (seventeen titles in all) are among his most famous and lasting work.
