Developed by America's pioneer women in the early 1800s, candlewicking used only the simplest of materials readily to hand -- muslin, cotton, and the thread from which it derived its name, the cotton twist yarn used as a wick in candlemaking.Traditional fabrics are still used today, though now they are of better quality and the variety of threads available is extensive.
