Spirit of Chiapas The Expressive Art of the Roof Cross Tradition

Virginia Ann Guess first visited the highlands of Chiapas in 1972. After completing her doctorate in Medical Anthropology at the University of California San Francisco in 1981, she returned to do independent research on the culture and folk arts of Chiapas, and to collaborate with her husband, Robert Guess, in his work with the Bromeliaceae of Chiapas. Together they have published numerous articles in the Journal of the Bromeliad Society, many of which describe the cultural use of this family of plants. The couple divide their time between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Santa Barbara, California. Virginia Ann Guess is currently at work on her second book on ChiapasGuess, Virginia Ann is the author of 'Spirit of Chiapas The Expressive Art of the Roof Cross Tradition', published 2004 under ISBN 9780890134283 and ISBN 0890134286.
