PART ONE "Somebody's calling my name." This is the story of a black boy living in North Carolina. Dave's parents are law abiding citizens and God fearing Christians. Dave soon realizes that there is a striking difference between 'black and white' people and in the way 'blacks' are treated. This is still the era of segregation, of racism and a time when a black boy faces a dismal future. So, as he grows up into a handsome young fellow, Dave joins the Marines and begins to discover the world. Upon his return from Japan, he moves to Philadelphia and begins to discover life. PART TWO "A dream that became a nightmare" The story begins in 1982, on Thanksgiving Day, two years after the first part ends. By this time Dave has relocated to Atlanta Georgia. While he volunteers to help Hosea Williams, a disciple of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., in feeding the hungry and homeless to a turkey dinner, he meets Linda. Linda is white woman whose life has been marred by a troublesome marriage, which ended in a divorce when the man was imprisoned for assault. When he's released, and while Linda is dating Dave; she falls victim to her husband's madness and he commits suicide. After months of a cautious but loving relationship, Dave and Linda decide to get married. Their 'mixed' marriage raises eyebrows, but does not affect the tenderness and loving care they have for each other throughout the years. Meanwhile Dave becomes money hungry. He's not satisfied with his job, his investments and all of which he has acquired in life so far. Thus, in the pursuit of 'financial independence', he gets on the wrong track of greed and runs his life to the ground and his marriage goes down the tube. Did Dave havehis priorities wrong? Or is it greed versus love that forced Dave into a no-win situation? I'll let you find out.Roberts, Fred "Max" is the author of 'Somebody's Calling My Name' with ISBN 9781418420000 and ISBN 141842000X.
