The group of islands known by the term Ryukyu (modern Okinawa) forms a chain of small islands stretching from Japan to Taiwan. The Ryukyus were under strong cultural influences from China & Japan &, to a lesser extent, from Korea & SE Asia. This monograph provides a history of the Ryukyu trading kingdom & its high standard of civilization. Discusses lacquer produced in Ryukyu & its influences from China & Japan.
