This book is the third to be published in a series of volumes that will be the first complete scholarly catalogue of the Robert Lehman Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Arta collection of more than 2,000 paintings, drawings, and decorative-arts objects that possesses in itself the breadth and quality of a major museum. Robert Lehman assembled the finest and most comprehensive private collection of Italian Renaissance majolica in the United States: this volume analyzes in detail the 157 pieces now at the Metropolitan Museum. The objects range in date from about 1400 to the 1600s, with an emphasis on the High Renaissance, the golden age of majolica. Among the highlights of the collection are a large group of the much-esteemed lusterware from Deruta and Gubbio; a famous bowl presented to Pope Julius II; three plates by the renowned majolica painter Nicol da Urbino, two of them from the service made for Isabella d'Este; and four pieces from the Pucci service painted by Francesco Xanto Avelli da Rovigo.Rasmussen, Jorg is the author of 'Robert Lehman Collection Vol. 10 : Italian Majolica', published 1989 under ISBN 9780691040738 and ISBN 0691040737.
