Review of Federal Programs for Wire System Safety : Final Report of the Wire Safety System Interagency Working Group

Wiring is everywhere around us. Miles of electrical wiring are present in the buildings where we live & work. Deterioration of wire systems (WS) can result in loss of critical functions in equipment powered by the WS, or loss of information regarding equipment operation. This can result in loss of control, smoke, & fire. This report identifies 9 findings concerning WS safety that are common to Fed. programs, & documents 42 Fed. & 18 industry S&T projects that are currently underway. Concludes that WS safety is a national issue that transcends government agencies & is important to public health & safety. Recommends 4 basic strategies to improve WS safety.
