This monograph by the SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology & End Results) Program of the Nat. Cancer Inst. resulted from the work of the 11 SEER registries & the SEER staff. Since prostate cancer was the number one incident cancer & the number two cause of cancer deaths among U.S. men 1973-1995, the data are important for researchers, clinicians, policy makers & citizens in understanding this disease. Data are from the SEER program which has registries covering 14% of the U.S. pop'n. Mortality data are both from the SEER areas & the entire U.S. pop'n. Data for the 23-year period are presented for whites & blacks. Data for Asians, Native Amer., & Hispanics are only avail. for 1990-1995, & are presented in a separate section.
