Pressure Ulcer Prevention

Recent studies show that up to 23% of long term care residents suffer from pressure ulcers. However, with a proper prevention program in place, most pressure ulcers are preventable. CNAs play a key role in helping to prevent pressure ulcers and in making sure that a facility's pressure ulcer prevention program is successful. The purpose of this program is to review the basic skills that a CNA needs to know to help prevent pressure ulcers. After watching the video, participating in class discussion, reading the handouts, and taking the tests, participants should be able to describe residents who are at risk for developing pressure ulcers, identify areas of the body where pressure ulcers may develop, list the basic skills that a CNA needs to know to help prevent pressure ulcers, describe the appearance of a pressure ulcer in its early stages.
