SUMMARY

This report presents the results of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture's Inspector General's nationwide review of the Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP); Operation Kiddie Care through Feb. 1999. The CACFP is a valuable program for children in child care, but, as shown by the results of Operation Kiddie Care, the CACFP is highly vulnerable to abuse because the primary controls for combating fraud & abuse have been vested in the CACFP sponsors. The audit found that some sponsors were using program funds for their personal enrichment & thereby reducing the funds available to provide an effective food service program to children in day care.Viadero, Roger C. is the author of 'Presidential Initiative : Operation Kiddie Care: Food and Nutrition Service, Child and Adult Food Care Program, National Report on Program Abuss', published 2000 under ISBN 9780788188978 and ISBN 0788188976.
