Particular Grace: A Defense of God's Sovereignty in Salvation

Originally a series of articles in a Dutch weekly church paper, Particular Grace is the first translation from the Dutch of Dr. Abraham Kuyper?s defense of the doctrine of sovereign, particular grace, which was opposed in his day by those who espoused a ?Christus pro omnibus,? or ?Christ for all.? This view of most of the Reformed churches of Kuyper?s day was a departure from the historic creeds. In an organized way, Kuyper sets out to prove that Scripture, the creeds, and even life experience teach a grace of God that is not for all but for particular men only?those who have been elected by God to salvation. Divided into four main parts, the text is composed of forty chapters. The translator, Marvin Kamps, includes in his introduction discussions of Kuyper?s doctrine, his life, and his times. The Outlook magazine said, ?All in all, these forty chapters?none is longer than ten pages, most are shorter?should help clear our minds again so that we return to a Biblical view of grace.
