AUTHOR

Diamant, Anita

SUMMARY

Anita Diamant’s books on contemporary Jewish practice open doors to meaningful observance. She presents basic information from a variety of Jewish sources with unabashed enthusiasm for the tradition, a firm grounding in the realities of modern life, and respect for the intelligence of the reader. In her books and in lectures around the country, Diamant avoids prescribing how Jews ought” to name their babies or get married or celebrate the Sabbath. Instead, she takes the journalist’s approach, describing the rich variety of American Jewish life and setting forth the wealth of choices open to those who want to explore this living tradition. Her first novel, The Red Tent, was based on the biblical story of Dinah. Awarded the Booksense Book of the Year in 2001, it has become an international bestseller, with editions in more than twenty countries. Her second novel, Good Harbor, has also been widely translated. A book of her essays, Pitching My Own Tent: On Marriage, Motherhood, Friendship and Other Leaps of Faith, is a collection from her many years as an essayist for such publications as the Boston Globe Magazine and Parenting magazine. Anita Diamant is president and founder of Mayyim Hayyim: Living Waters Community Mikveh and Education Center in Newton, Massachusetts. She is a long-time member of Congregation Beth El of the Sudbury River Valley.Diamant, Anita is the author of 'New Jewish Baby Book Names, Ceremonies, & Customs-a Guide for Today's Families', published 2005 under ISBN 9781580232517 and ISBN 1580232515.
