Nanostructured Materials Nanotechnology is the creation and utilization of materials, devices and systems through the control of matter on the nanometer-length scale. Thus, nano(structured) materials contain a substantial fraction of atoms located in interfaces or surfaces, which can be regarded as a separate phase with special properties different from the bulk. If the grain or domain size becomes comparable to the characteristic length scale of the interaction processes controlling a particular property, new effects and unusual chemical and physical properties can be expected which are highly attractive in a number of technical applications. The scope of the symposium therefore will be focused on materials and devices with a characteristic length scale (for example grain or cluster size, thickness of multilayer structures, quantum dots or wires) of less than 100 nanometers. The symposium aims at reviewing the progress in the field of nanostructured materials and materials for nanotechnologies in terms of their synthesis and processing, as well as their structural, electronic, optical, mechanical, chemical and biological properties and, thus will further promote contact between basic research efforts and technological needs.Fecht, Hans-Jörg is the author of 'Nanostructured Materials', published 2005 under ISBN 9783527310098 and ISBN 3527310096.
