Michael Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak founded M/M in 1992 after having met at art school in Paris. Since then they have worked together as graphic designers and art directors mostly on fashion, music and art projects for longstanding creative clients and collaborators such as the fashion designers Yohji Yamamoto, Jil Sander or Jeremy Scott, or with musicians like Bjork, The Micronauts or Benjamin Biolay and more recently Madonna. Their work in the art world ranges from commissions for museums such as the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, to collaborations and exhibitions with artists like Philippe Parreno and Pierre Huyghe, with whom they have also designed a Cafe in Paris in 2001. They have developed a distinctively unexpected graphic approach combining free forms within strictly controlled compositions. Each of their projects is considered as a ?conversation? with those who commission. Fully conceived by M/M, this publication contains an interview by Hans-Ulrich Obrist as well as images from the designers? most recent projects. It accompanies the exhibition at the Ursula Blickle Foundation, November 14 ? December 14, 2004 which is curated by Cristina Ricupero, nifca (Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art). Entitled Antigula, the show will feature specially commissioned works which highlight dialogue, collaboration and complicity within the practice of M/M.Obrist, Hans Ulrich is the author of 'M/m : Le Grand Livre', published 2004 under ISBN 9781933128016 and ISBN 1933128011.
