B. Lawson Thornton is a survivor. Like her character Kerri Mitchell, B. Lawson grew up in one of Washington, D.C.'s toughest neighborhoods. Drugs, crime and premature sex were the norm. In her early teen years, B. Lawson fell victim to the environmental hazards of ghetto life. By age 20, she was a mother to two children and married to an alcoholic, physical and emotional abuser. Writing had always been therapeutic for B. Lawson, but after reading her own diary upon leaving her abusive husband, the author unmasked a hidden talent, creative writing. At the age of 24, B. Lawson finished her first novel, Misery Loves Company. Though it was still in manuscript form, she printed copies for her friends and relatives, to which she received rave reviews. Convinced that the novel would serve as inspiration to women in unhealthy situations, B. Lawson started to research ways of becoming published. In 2003, B. Lawson formed East River Press, LLC. Aside from writing and running her own publishing company, the divorced mother of two enjoys speaking on many subjects including teenage pregnancy, domestic violence and the effects of alcoholism.B. Lawson Thornton is the author of 'Misery Loves Company: The Diary of Kerri Mitchell' with ISBN 9780974018300 and ISBN 0974018309.
