AUTHOR

Noble, John

SUMMARY

John Noble comes from the Ribble Valley in northern England, where it rains even more than in the Amazon rainforest but isn't quite so warm. A degree in philosophy somehow led John into a career in newspaper journalism, but increasing interruptions for travel to various bits of the globe saw him eventually leave Fleet Street for a Lonely Planet trail that has seen him cover, at the last count, 19 countries from Russia to Mexico, Indonesia to Lithuania and Australia to Andorra. He has been the coordinating author of many editions of multi-author titles, including Mexico, Spain, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus and now Brazil. Taking on Brazilian Amazonia for this edition, as well as writing the new Natural Brazil section and updating the book's introductory chapters, amounted to one of his most exciting and challenging tasks yet. John is based in Spain, together with his wife and co-author Susan Forsyth and their children, Jack and Isabella. Andrew Draffen Australian-born Andrew has traveled and worked his way around Australia, Asia, North America and the Caribbean. He has been coming to Brazil to update this book since its 2nd edition and is also author of Lonely Planet's Rio de Janeiro city guide. He now lives in Melbourne and divides his time between writing, coaching other writers and guiding tours to Brazil. He also spends an excessive amount of time daydreaming about Ipanema sunsets. Robyn Jones As a teenager Robyn traded farm life in rural Victoria, Australia, for a year as an exchange student in the Brazilian megalopolis of Sao Paulo. While studying for a degree in architecture, she tripped around Australia and Europe. Later, she returned to Brazil with Leonardo to live in Rio de Janeiro for a while and to meet her future in-laws. She covered the northern region of Brazil for the 3rd and 4th editions of Lonely Planet's Brazil and the 7th edition of South America, co-wrote Fiji and the 5th edition update, wrote the Fiji and Tuvalu chapters of the 1st edition of South Pacific and contributed to the 2nd edition of Travel With Children. In between travels Robyn works as an architect in Melbourne, where she lives with Leonardo and their two sons, Alex and Nicholas. Chris McAsey After being weeded out of law school, Chris bounced around for several years, dabbling in hospitality, professional football and the rag trade. A short holiday in Greece whetted his appetite; he left his dead-end job to travel through Eastern Europe, Asia and the US, study Russian in Moscow and work in Japan. He returned home to complete a BA in professional writing and to write a guide to Australia for Japanese travelers before setting off on his first LP job in Indonesia. After traveling solo for 15 years, he looks forward to adventures with partner Gina and their children, Eden and Fischer. Leonardo Pinheiro was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At 15, curious to roam further than Rio city, he jumped on a bus to the Northeast coast. From then on, he traveled throughout Brazil as much as his pocket money and time would allow. After training in agricultural science, Leonardo headed for Sydney to do post-grad studies and to check out the Australian surf. He met Robyn and moved to Melbourne, where they now live with their two sons, Alex and Nicholas. Leonardo also worked on the 3rd and 4th editions of Lonely Planet's Brazil, the 7th edition of South America, the rewrite of Fiji and the 5th edition update, co-wrote the Fiji and Tuvalu chapters of the 1st edition of South Pacific and contributed to the 2nd edition of Travel With Children. He is currently studying for his PhD in biochemistry.
