1891. Arnold, English author, won fame for his blank-verse epic The Light of Asia, dealing with the life of Buddha. He attempted a second narrative poem of which the central figure should be the founder of Christianity, as the founder of Buddhism had been that of the first. The Light of the World, in which this took shape, has considerable poetic merit.
