Allen Abramson is a senior lecturer in Social Anthropology at University College London. He has carried out field research in the interior of eastern Fiji, focusing primarily upon the dialectics of gender, sexuality and the ritual context of land. He is currently carrying out field research in the UK into dangerous games and modern epic. He has also taught in the Universities of the South Pacific (Fiji), Glasgow and Edinburgh Jean Besson is a Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He has carried out field research in Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Trinidad. His research interests include the social ecology of shifting cultivators and pastoralists, inter-ethnic relations, cultural and institutional factors affecting development, and the interrelationship of education and social change.
