Who needs Jesus? Certainly not those who have found Christianity narrow, mean, bigoted, and ridiculous. The first part of this book demonstrates there is ample justification for rejecting the Bible, Christianity, and Jesus as they have been misrepresented. Just because the misrepresentations need to be rejected doesnat mean that religion doesnat contain some valuable understandings and challenges. The second part of the book is an illustration of what Jesus was about according to the gospel of Mark, the most barebones of the four books we call gospels. When Mark is read without preconceived ideas Jesus not only teaches, he illustrates by his behavior that his kingdom is available to all and that no distinctions of race, nation or even condition of asina or purity is supposed to separate people from God and each other.
