SUMMARY

George W. Drake, Ph.C. Autobiographical Sketch Raised in a small northern California mountain town, I excelled in primary and secondary school and was able to put myself through college with scholarships and a lucrative summer job as a brakeman for the Southern Pacific RR. In 1970 I earned the Candidate in Philosophy degree in mathematics from U.C. Davis (an official ABD” degree, signed by Ronald Reagan and everything). I moved from the graduate school to the faculty as the field director and primary trainer in the MAT mathematics program based on the Socratic Method” technique of teaching as demonstrated by yours truly in classes conducted in the disadvantaged neighborhood of Del Paso Heights in Sacramento. I remained on faculty at UCD until moving back to the mountains in 1978, where I was at Lake Tahoe Community College for the remainder of my teaching career. During that time I was very active in the Academic Senate, both statewide and local, and in the service organization, Kiwanis International. In addition, I was the founder, in 1989, and moving force behind a local environmental/peace organization, Common Sense. That group floundered in 1995 when I left it on account of medical problems, but not before I and many others were arrested numerous times at the Nevada Nuclear Test Site and Common Sense had become a widely respected group in South Lake Tahoe for its numerous public projects, including the annual Earthwise Commutathon” and An Evening For World Peace” events. I took an early retirement in 2004 to start a new environmental movement based on In The Service of Gaia: The Call. I am currently seeking a traditional publisher. The movement is currently in the form of a rejuvenation of the earlier effort, and is called Common Sense for the Third Millennium. Besides having the book as a resource, and my having overcome the medical problem, the major differences between the earlier effort and CS iii are that the new organization is more narrowly focused on the specific ideas and activities suggested in The Call, that I can now devote full time to the group, and that we (the local organizers) intend this organization to go global and last for generations.Drake, George is the author of 'In the Service of Gaia : The Call' with ISBN 9780978824617 and ISBN 097882461X.
