Lactantius Placidus, a scholar from the late fourth or early fifth century, composed a commentary on the Thebaid of Statius. It was broken up into marginal scholia and interlinear glosses and then reconstituted as a commentary before the Carolingian age. This edition is based on a full examination of the numerous extant manuscripts--both those which present this text as a commentary and those which display it in the form of glosses and scholia--and then goes on to reconstruct the Carolingian archetype.
