Mary S. Hartman holds the title of University Professor at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where she directs the Institute for Women's Leadership. She specializes in European social and political theory as well as in women's and gender studies. A former president of the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians, she is also a co-founder of the Berkshire Conference on the History of Women.
