As one response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Dept. of Justice (DoJ) initiated a project to interview aliens whose characteristics were similar to those responsible for the attacks. The purpose was to determine what knowledge the aliens might have of terrorists & terrorist activities. This report determines: the criteria that DoJ used in compiling the list of aliens to be questioned; whether law enforcement complied with DoJ guidance for the project; the interview project's status; & what info. resulted from it. The government's antiterrorism efforts will continue to rely, in part, on conducting interview projects with aliens who reside in this country. This report recommends that the Att. Gen. review the project & report on lessons learned.Stana, Richard M. is the author of 'Homeland Security : Justice Department's Project to Interview Aliens after September 11, 2001', published 2003 under ISBN 9780756735685 and ISBN 0756735688.
