States & the fed. gov't. have funded billions of dollars' worth of improvements to drinking water & wastewater infrastructure. Even so, drinking water & wastewater utilities across the country still need to significantly increase their invest. to upgrade aging & deteriorating capital assets. Utilities, states, & the fed. gov't. have recognized the importance of making financial assistance easier to obtain. Many states have established approaches to coordinate funding. Six states were surveyed -- AZ, CA, MO, NY, PA, & WA -- to identify the keys to the success of their coordinated funding approaches. Here are the lessons learned by these states so that other state may understand the benefits & challenges of coordinating funding efforts.
