Grandfather's Stories

This is a series which provides students with both cultural information as well as a strong sense of personal & social values. The series portrays families living in the U.S., but through the eyes of Grandfather the grandchildren learn about their cultural heritage. Cultures presently available are: Cambodia, Germany, Mexico, the Philippines, & Viet Nam. Each culture is represented by two books: GRANDFATHER'S STORIES, which introduces the culture by means of sharing about its history & social customs. In the first book Grandfather also shares what values he would most want to pass on to his grandchildren. The second book of each culture, MORE OF GRANDFATHER'S STORIES continues to emphasize values. This time Grandfather actually tells a folktale which illustrates the values shared in the first book. The teacher's guide & activity book offers numerous suggestions & additional information which enhances & expands the storyline. Although written on a 2nd grade reading level the format & illustrations lend themselves to older grades as well, especially when the teacher's guide is used in conjunction with the student books.
