Images of America: Fort George G. Meade depicts the history of this vibrant installation from its activation in 1917 to the present. Built hurriedly to meet the demands of World War I, the post rose from orchards and small farms in a matter of months. By the end of the war, more than 100,000 men and women had passed through, often on their way to the battlefields of Europe. George Patton and Dwight Eisenhower first met at Camp Meade when assigned to the Tank Corps. The installation was also the final stateside home of the 29th Division before it stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, and the National Security Agency was created at Fort Meade to help gather intelligence on the nation’s enemies. This volume contains more than 200 photographs of Fort Meade and the men and women who served here.Johnson, Robert is the author of 'Fort George G. Meade ', published 2005 under ISBN 9780738517827 and ISBN 0738517828.
