Nancy Whittier is Associate Professor of Sociology and a member of the Women's Studies Program Committee at Smith College. She teaches courses on gender, social movements, queer politics, and research methods. She received her Ph.D. from the Ohio State University, where she held a University Fellowship and a Presidential Dissertation Fellowship.Professor Whittier is the author of Feminist Generations: The Persistence of the Radical Women's Movement, which traces the evolution of radical feminism over the past 25 years and examines intergenerational differences within the women's movement. Her work on the women's movement, social movement culture and collective identity, and activist generations has appeared in numerous scholarly collections and journals. She is currently co-editing a volume on new directions in social movement theory.
