Fair Exchange

This catalog accompanies the exhibition Fair Exchange, presented by the Millard Sheets Gallery for the L.A. County Fair, Pomona, California, 8 September through 1 October 2006. Organized by Irene Tsatsos with consulting curators Glenn Phillips, Jeff Cain for Shed Research Institute and Utopia!, Julie Deamer for Outpost for Contemporary Art and Fair Trade, and Veronica Wiman for Civic Matters.Traditionally, the Fair has been a celebration of regional domestic and agricultural arts and sciences. Although fairs and art galleries share the practice of exhibiting as a way to communicate cultural meaning and values, historical boundaries have distinguished one tradition from the other. The goal of Fair Exchange is to challenge these barriers and open a meaningful dialogue between artists, fairgoers, and art audiences. With the L.A.
