The state of corrections (CR) has come under attack during the past decade. Some argue that the public sector is incapable of handling the complex & changing dynamics assoc. with CR, & therefore more prisons need to be handed over to the private sector (PS); others argue that the PS should not be a part of the public matter of penalizing offenders of crime. Although the PS has had a long history of involvement in CR, private prisons make up less than 5% of the current market.
