Starr Ockenga is a writer, photographer, designer, and educator. Her photographs and articles have appeared in many publications, including Life, Esquire, Camera, Victoria, Country Home, and Horticulture. She received her master's degree in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design and has been granted fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Massachusetts Artists Foundation. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across the United States and abroad, and is in numerous public and private collections. Her most recent book, Earth on Her Hands: The American Woman in Her Garden, was the recipient of an American Horticultural Society's Annual Book Award for 1999.
