E-Commerce and Development Report 2002

E-commerce is a key example of how information and communication technologies (ICT) can contribute to development and help facilitate the integration of developing countries into the global trading economy. However, much more is needed to bridge the digital divide and ensure the benefits of ICT are available to all. This annual report looks at a range of topics that will influence the expansion of e-commerce in developing countries, and identifies the policy and business options available to maximise its benefits to promote economic and social development. The report finds that e-commerce is increasing in developing countries, although regional positions vary.
