Duncan King is a wandering Brit who made his way to the wonderfully warm and dry state of California 16 years ago. He fell in with a dissolute bunch of desert rats, and has successfully maintained a wandering lifestyle ever since. Most of Duncan’s desert experience has been within Death Valley, especially the Eureka and Saline Valleys which are some of the latest additions to the Park. These areas are more rugged, isolated, and dangerous than Death Valley, and require more expertise, equipment, and 4WD experience in order to cope. He has survived water bottles that have frozen overnight, encounters with rattlesnakes and scorpions, smashed trailer leaf springs and 121 degree heat in July. He likes exploring, which is why he wanted to write this book.
