Lester (psychology, Richard Stockton State College, NJ) examines the data collected in research on criminal behavior in Native American populations to determine if the beliefs that Native Americans have a high frequency of crime and that they are subject to discrimination by the criminal justice system are accurate. He concludes that when the socioeconomic status and the age structure of Native Americans are taken into consideration they actually have a remarkably low crime rate. The research also suggests that although there is some discrimination in the courts, it is not the norm, but Lester emphasizes that much more research needs to be done in this area.David Lester is the author of 'Crime and the Native American' with ISBN 9780398069834 and ISBN 0398069832.
