University of Illinois alumnus Loren Tate is a longtime sports columnist and former sports editor of The News-Gazette in Champaign, Illinois. In addition to his prestigious career as a newspaper journalist, he has covered Fighting Illini sports for decades as a radio and television broadcaster. He is currently a contributor to both The News-Gazette and WDWS radio. A true legend in the Champaign-Urbana community, Tate has received several noteworthy honors, including induction into the IHSA Basketball Hall of Fame and the UI's honorary Varsity "I" award. Tate resides in Champaign with his wife, Alexis, and their son, Travis, a UI student. This is his first book. Jared Gelfond is a Pomona, New York native and a 2002 broadcast journalism graduate of the University of Illinois. While an undergraduate, he served as the chairman of the Orange Krush, president of Illini Pride, and co-founded a student recruiting organization for the Illinois men's basketball program. Upon graduation, he was employed as a producer at WFAN Radio [Sports Radio 660] in New York, New York. At present, Gelfond is pursuing a master's degree in sport management and working as a graduate assistant for the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.
