California (CA) has always been a bellwether state for managed care (MC). Analysts anticipated that by the 21st cent., CA would represent a fully mature MC market: most patients would be enrolled in one of a handful of HMO plans, & most physicians would be working in large med. groups. The results of this survey suggest that a different scenario is now playing out in CA.
