SUMMARY

Linda Acredolo, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology at the University of California at Davis, is an internationally recognized scholar in the field of child development. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Bucknell University, she earned her Ph.D. in Child Development from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Acredolo is a Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society. Susan Goodwyn, Ph.D., Professor of Child Development at the State University of California at Stanislaus, received her Master's of Science with First Honors in Child Language Development from the University of London and her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California at Davis. Prior to assuming her current position, Dr. Goodwyn served as Project Director for two major grants, one sponsored by the Kellogg Foundation and the other by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Drs. Acredolo and Goodwyn are cofounders of the Baby Signs Institute. The Institute represents the end-product of their two decades of research devoted to determining the effect on infants and toddlers of using Baby Signs to communicate before they can talk. Major funding for this work was received from the National Institutes of Health. The results of their research, attesting to the positive effects of Baby Signs on development, have appeared in peer-reviewed professional journals and books, and have been presented at over thirty national and international conferences. Determined to spread the good news beyond academia, in 1996 Drs. Acredolo and Goodwyn coauthored this landmark book for parents. Since that time they have worked tirelessly to share the Baby Signs "message" with as many families as possible throughout the world. Douglas Abrams is a writer and editor and founding partner of Idea Architects, A Creative Book and Media Development Company. His twin daughters, Kayla and Eliana, were enthusiastic Baby Signers. He worked with Drs. Acredolo and Goodwyn to prepare this new edition and to develop the Baby Signs Board Book series.Linda Acredolo is the author of 'Baby Signs: How to Talk with Your Baby Before Your Baby Can Talk, New Edition', published 2002 under ISBN 9780071387767 and ISBN 0071387765.
