Dr. Larry Ross earned his Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and he holds B.A. degrees in Anthropology, History and International Studies from Case Western Reserve University, where he played varsity tennis, and piano with the All-Ohio Collegiate Jazz Ensemble, and at Severance Hall. Having been a musician since the age of eight, Dr. Ross received the International Association of Jazz Educators Award for Outstanding Musicianship (piano), which was presented by "Slide" Hampton and other prominent musicians in 1990. He went to Nigeria in 1988 for Rotary International as a GSE Ambassador.
