Social anthropologist Dr Melinda Hinkson has worked with Aboriginal communities in central Australia, Melbourne and Sydney. Her research interests fall within the themes of contemporary Indigenous cultural expression, and interactions between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. Her doctorate, completed in 1999, was based on research with Warlpiri-speaking people at Yuendumu, Northern Territory. Melinda co-produced the CD-ROM Yanardilyi -- Cockatoo Creek for Tanami Network and Warlukurlangu Artists Association at Yuendumu, and has written on diverse topics including the use of new technologies in remote communities, land rights, Aboriginal art, and reconciliation. Melinda is currently Special Projects Officer within the Archives and Production Program, AIATSIS Photographer Alana Harris is a Wiradjuri/Ngunnawal woman, raised in Cowra, NSW. She was Senior Photographer with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies for 12 years, during which time she travelled extensively, visiting urban and traditional Indigenous communities. Her photographs have featured in national and international exhibitions such as Inside Black Australia and Aratjara, and been published in various books including the Encyclopaedia of Aboriginal Australia and After 200 Years. Alana received the Australian Heritage Commission Art Award (Photographic Section) in 1993 and the NAIDOC ACT Aboriginal Artist of the Year Award in 1990 and 1993.
