The decennial census is the nation's most comprehensive & expensive data-gathering program. On Sept. 27, 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau reported to the congress that it had at least $305 million of budget savings out of its $4.5 billion fiscal year 2000 one-year appropriation for the 2000 decennial census.
