Donald F. Myers was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. On 20 February 1952 at age seventeen he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. His overseas duties include Korea, Japan, Okinawa, the China Sea and over two-years combat duty in Vietnam. He also served at the Naval Mine Depot, Yorktown, Virginia, Camp Elmore, Norfolk, Virginia, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Camp Pendleton, California. Myers was a member of the Inspector-Instructor staff, Indianapolis, Indiana for four years prior to his medical retirement from the Corps on 30 April 1973. A graduate of Arsenal Technical High School of Indianapolis, Myers after leaving the Corps, in 1990, he retires from the VA as a senior counselor. Indiana Governor Evan Bayh awarded Myers Indiana’s highest award, the Sagamore of the Wabash upon his retirement from the VA. At retirement after twenty-three years of service with the Indiana Guard Reserve, Colonel Myers was awarded the Indiana Distinguished Service Medal. He is also a Kentucky Colonel and holds the Gold Distinguished Citizen medal. Besides writing books and articles Don Myers volunteers twenty five hours a week to the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation that helps homeless veterans. He is active in several veterans organizations and is the National Public Relations Director for the Marine Corps League.
